Why do I lose interest in someone who treats me well?

You say you want to be loved well. Then somebody does it, and something in you goes quiet. That contradiction has psychological and karmic roots, and in the chart it has a location. The Moon holds the first definition of love you ever received, and that definition is still running.
"Normal childhood. Nothing dramatic." I hear that sentence a lot, usually in the first ten minutes of a reading. Then the person describes their last three relationships, and their mother is in every one of them.
In the therapy world, people spend years coming to understand their mother and still choose the same partner at the end of it. In the spiritual world I move in, they are told to forgive her and move on. Being a tantric astrologer who also works with Jungian material, I am not in either camp. Understanding is not the same as recalibrating. Forgiveness is not the same as being able to feel the difference between two people standing in front of you.
What the Moon actually holds
Relationships in a chart are a field, not a point. The seventh house, whatever planets sit in it or aspect it, Venus, and the Moon are all in play, and a reading that collapses all of that onto one placement is doing you a disservice. This article reads one layer of the field, deliberately, because it is the layer that decides who you are drawn to before a single word is exchanged.
The Moon sits at the level of the psychological archetypes, and the maternal archetype lives there. That is why it does not hold a memory of your mother. It holds a definition. A child does not think, this is how my mother happens to love me. A child concludes, this is what love is. One sample, and the sample becomes the law.
That is not a flaw in children. It is how the mind builds anything. The first time you were laughed at in front of a room, you learned what rooms are. The first thing you were told about money became what money is. The mind cannot wait for a fair sample, so it takes the first instance and calls it the category. Love is simply the instance with the most consequences attached.
Here is where karma stops being a label and starts doing actual work. The point is not that your mother was your fate and nothing could be done. The point is that a definition cannot be seen while you are looking through it. It only becomes visible when it produces a result you did not want. So the pattern has to run, repeatedly, in the open, through your own choices, before you can catch it. Something in you is trying to learn from it, and the breaking of the cycle is the result of that learning, in that order. Skip the lesson and it does not cancel. It comes back later with more attached to it.
Familiar is not the same as good
If love arrived scarce, or priced, or earned, then uncertainty is what your body files as love. A partner who is steady and available reads as boring. Not safe. Boring. And if love arrived as being needed, then someone who does not need managing feels like someone who does not want you.
Notice that boredom is a physical event, not an opinion. It arrives in the chest, and by the time you are explaining it you are already reverse-engineering a reason for something your body decided first. That is why the reason always sounds so credible. He is "nice." There is just no spark. We want different things. The reason is real to you because the sensation was real. The sensation was accurate to an old definition, which is a different matter entirely.
Sexual desire is not separate from this and I am not going to be delicate about it. Sexual attraction needs charge, and in an imprinted body the charge has been wired to a specific ingredient: risk, or scarcity, or being needed, or being performed for. Remove the ingredient and the desire goes flat, and the person concludes there is no chemistry. There is chemistry. It is tuned to a frequency that hurt you.
Your mother almost certainly did her best with what she had, and what she gave you was love. I mean that plainly, not as a softener. But that is not the same as saying it was accurate. A definition can be delivered with total sincerity and still be too small to live inside as an adult. Both of those are true at once, and you do not have to demote her to admit the second one.
The Moon by sign: what love felt like
What follows are examples, not categories. Your Moon may not land in any of these, and most charts read as a blend rather than a type.
A Capricorn Moon often took its imprint from love as provision. Love was demonstrated by what got done: the lunch made, the fee paid, the appointment kept. Warmth was not the medium. So as an adult you trust the person who drives to the airport at five in the morning and you quietly distrust the one who is tender, because tenderness never had to be earned and therefore does not count as evidence.
A Leo Moon frequently records love as arriving on the days you shone. The attention was real, and it was available when you were impressive. Being loved on an ordinary Tuesday does not register, so you keep producing something to be loved for and you are exhausted.
A Scorpio Moon tends to take love in with an undertow, with something being managed under the surface, a room where the real situation was never said out loud. Calm then reads as absence. You will find the person who is fully present and fully transparent strangely uninteresting, and that is not because they lack depth.
A Gemini Moon often had love delivered as attention and talk, as being asked about and answered. A devoted partner who is simply quiet reads as nothing happening at all.
The Moon by house: where you expect it delivered
The sign is the texture love had. The house is the address you still go to for it, the room of life where you expect it to be handed over.
The Moon in the sixth house expects love through daily care, through the logistics and the routine and the small maintenance of a life. The risk that comes with it is confusing being useful with being loved, and then feeling invisible in a relationship where nothing needs fixing.
The Moon in the tenth house learned love in a public register, through recognition, standing, achievement, a mother who was often facing outward. The partner has to elevate you somehow, and love that only exists in a private room can feel like it is not really happening.
The Moon in the twelfth house often received love that was present but not reachable, held behind illness or sacrifice or a parent whose inner life was somewhere else. Unavailability then feels like the real thing. Nothing is as romantic as a person who is almost here.
I am not going to hand you a table of twelve signs against twelve houses. Charts do not work that way, and a table would let you file yourself under one line and stop reading, which is the opposite of useful. Aspects change all of it. Saturn contacting the Moon can harden the imprint into a rule you enforce on yourself, Pluto can charge it with intensity that makes ordinary affection feel like nothing, Neptune can blur it until you cannot tell devotion from disappearance, and I am naming only the shadow expression of each of those. All three also carry beautiful and productive influence on the Moon, and in plenty of charts that is exactly what they do. Beyond them, a Moon in a stressed relationship to Venus or to the seventh house sets up a different problem again, where what you are drawn to and what you can sustain are not the same thing.
The condition love arrived under is the condition you are still requiring.
That principle is what travels, and it is the part that is worth knowing precisely rather than roughly. Which condition you took, and which room of your chart you keep going to for it, is one of the first things I go looking for in a personal reading.
How this actually surfaces in a reading
A woman came to me last year having ended a third relationship with a decent man, and she opened with the sentence at the top of this article. Nothing dramatic. Fine childhood.
What I noticed first was not the chart. It was that she described all three partners in the same words, in the same order, with the same shrug. Three different men, one review. That kind of repetition is never about the men. So I asked her what happened when she was ill as a child. She said her mother brought soup, took her temperature, and went back to work. Never sat down.
Then I looked at the Moon, and the reading was already waiting there. Capricorn, sixth house, in a hard aspect to Saturn. Love as provision, delivered through daily care, and hardened by Saturn into something with a standard attached to it. Presence had never once been encoded as love. Only competence had. So a man who simply sat with her registered as a man doing nothing.
She took that seriously, and I want to be accurate about the reason it worked, because it was not the reading on its own. She was willing to entertain the possibility that her taste was not her own judgement. Plenty of people are not, and no chart in the world gets past that.
What you do with it
The first thing is precision. "I have mother stuff" is useless. You want the specific noun: what exact condition was love delivered under in your house, and what exactly is now missing when a good partner leaves you cold. Scarcity. Or intensity. Or being needed. Or being watched. One word, and it should make you slightly uncomfortable to say it.
The second thing is repetition, and it is unglamorous. You stay inside the flat feeling instead of acting on it. When the boredom arrives, you name it as data rather than a verdict, you ask which ingredient is absent, and you make no decisions about the relationship that week. Then you do that again, and again, over months, because a definition set over a childhood does not get overwritten by one insight on a Tuesday. What you are doing is teaching your body to read steadiness as safety rather than as nothing, and bodies learn that the slow way or not at all.
None of this requires cutting your mother off. That option gets recommended a great deal and it rarely does what people hope. The definition does not live at her address, it lives in you, and distance does not uninstall it. I have watched people go fully no contact and then reproduce the pattern with perfect accuracy in the next relationship. What actually changes things is seeing the definition clearly enough to stop obeying it, and you can do that while still calling her on Sundays.
The chart is the diagnosis here. It gives you the specific imprint you took, the room you keep going to for love, and the ingredient your desire has been wired to, which is the thing that lets you tell familiar from good while it is happening rather than three years later. If you would like that mapped in your own chart, you can book a personal reading.
You are not choosing badly. You are choosing accurately, off an old definition. And a definition is not a life sentence. It is just the one you got first.
